To Serve...

Today was Septemberfest in the town of Nyack where my college is located. For one of my classes, 6 hours of community service is required. So me and a couple of friends signed up to help out at Septemberfest either collecting donations for homeless shelters, cleaning up trash or prayer walking. So we get down there, and it's super hot, and there's tons of people walking around the different vendors which were selling jewelry, food, art stuff, etc. Our first task was to go prayerwalking, which I was really excited about because I have never done it before. So we did that and came back and were told to empty the trash barrels on the streets. While we were taking a break, the girl in charge of delegating jobs and whatnot was telling us that we just want to, as a college, have a good reputation in the community because some things had happened a while ago which gave Nyack College a bad impression in the community so she said now we are working to build that good reputation back up. What I think it so cool about this is that we're cleaning up trash, and collecting money for homeless shelters. We're not in the faces of the people preaching at them...we're just serving and letting our actions speak for themselves. I love that about this school! We're not out to condemn people, but to serve them and love them so that they will wonder why we would do such a thing. And it was really nice when some of the vendors would thank us for picking up trash...because it wasn't fun, it really wasn't. It was hot, and the trash was dirty and smelly and we couldn't wash our hands...but it wasn't supposed to be fun. Still, I am SO GLAD that we had to do it. We were being Jesus to people in a real tangilble way. And I could tell from some of the looks we got and some thanks that people really appreciated it.

It's been a long time

hey!

i wonder if there are still people who read my blog??? Hmm....well anyway. so obviously i haven't posted in a while so here's a quick update: the summer went by SO fast! first there was the bosnia trip and then there was the visit Larissa trip and then a quick beach trip with a friend and one last band show for my friends who had a band. so it's been pretty crazy. and now i'm at Nyack. orientation started yesterday and my parents just left. so no turning back now! it's so weird saying goodbye to your parents. it's not only that, it's saying goodbye to your childhood and not having to make big decisions on your own. i miss them already. i know it will get better, but right now it sucks.

I'm Baaaaaaaack!

Oh my! It has been FOREVER!!!! since I have posted something. I'm very sorry for those of you who are faithful checkers. Although I have to say part of it was not my fault. My stupid internet filter blocks everything! Even sites that are not remotely pornographic! So I am now finally able to update. I guess part of it is my fault though cuz I just pretty much was like screw this, I just won't post anymore so I stopped trying. Then I was like, ya know, I should try one more time for you all and it worked!

So...what's up with me? Well this past month I went down to Florida to visit Larissa, which was an amazing time! I also met someone down there. His name is Jason and we met swing dancing twice. He is a Christian guy, he's fun to talk to and he's really sweet. We decided to keep in contact and were both attracted to one another so after tons of texting and a few phone calls...we decided to be in a relationship! It's so exciting! He's the sweetest guy. We text every day and he calls me every night! It's so wonderful! I don't know how much to say on here so if you want to know more you can email me. He's also really hott! lol. And I am going back to Florida to visit him in July (and of course Larissa!) Hopefully, if he can find cheap tickets and some time off from work and school, he is coming to visit me for graduation! I really hope he can come! Ok so I know some of you are like "oh my gosh she's crazy! she only met this guy twice and now he's her bf!?!?!" but we both really feel like God brought us together. We know it's going to be hard having a long distance relationship but we are willing to work at it and we'll see what happens. My parents were ok with it since he's a Christian and he's going to Larissa's church and stuff so I'm really thankful to God for that. So that's pretty much what's been happening in my life. Of course I still have school till June 8 and I'm working and I've applied for a second job so I should be pretty busy this summer. It's crazy. Well I hope I haven't bored anyone who still checks my blog. Love you all! ~Katalina

18!

Happy Birthday to Me!
YAY! So my birthday was on Tuesday (Jan 30) and now I am officially an adult! I love being 18! It's such a difference from being 17. Although I have no exercised any of my new rights yet such as being out driving past 11pm, buying a lottery ticket, etc. But I can't wait to do that!
On Tuesday we had a family celebration and then on Wednesday me and all my friends went out for dinner at Chili's. It was awesome! I love my friends! They bought me dinner and they gave me gifts! I'm feelin the love! And, after weeks of saving up (and some birthday money) I GOT AN IPOD NANO! It just arrived today and it is BEA-UTIFUL!!!!!!!! I got home from school and screamed when I saw it. It's red! I'm so excited I finally have one!

I'm back!!!!

Hey everybody! You all probably thought I dropped off the face of the earth or something...well I'm here to tell you I didn't! Our internet blocker thing was blocking my ability to update my blog therefore I haven't updated in about 3 months. It's so nice to be back! A lot of things have happened over the past 3 months, but I'll just sum them all up: I got accepted to Nyack college, the college of my choice! I was in my first car accident ever, mom's fault :( and I got a raise at work! Now I get 7.20 an hour. Nice! Other than that school has been ok, just can't wait to be done with high school. Well that's all I have to say right now, sorry it's not too interesting. Love you all!

What's In a Name?

Yesterday was the funnest day I've had in a long time! My friends Amber and Christen and I went to a fair/parade in a nearby town. It was nice to just be out, it kind of reminded me of being on the walking street in Bosnia. Well anyways....we watched some of the parade, bought a really expensive funnel cake and some cheese fries and...........won some goldfish! So after Amber won us some goldfish we decided to go to Walmart to get some fish stuff. Then we got lost a few times taking the back roads home....but let me tell you, driving in the car with your friends, radio blaring, singing along to every song makes you feel like a real American teenager. It was great! And on the way home the gas light kept blinking so that added some excitement to the trip....but thank God we actually made it home. We also saw a real live skunk on the side of the road........I have never been so afraid of an animal in my whole life! But getting to the point of this post....I now need a name for my fish, and "fishy" just doesn't cut it. So if any of you come up with a good name for my fish let me know. For now I guess it has to be fishy. Well I must study for my Accounting quiz. Adios!
